EV Charge Time Calculator

Our calculator provides highly accurate estimates based on real vehicle specifications and charging curves. However, actual times may vary due to factors like temperature, battery condition, and charger efficiency. Results are typically accurate within 10-15%.

EV batteries use a charging curve that reduces power as they approach full capacity to protect the battery and ensure safety. This is why charging from 10-80% is typically much faster than 80-100%.

AC (Alternating Current) charging uses your car's onboard charger and is typically slower but cheaper, found at home and public destinations. DC (Direct Current) charging bypasses the onboard charger for faster speeds, commonly found at motorway services.

Cold temperatures can increase charging times by 10-30% as the battery management system reduces charging speeds to protect the battery. Pre-conditioning your battery while still plugged in can help minimize this effect.

The calculator automatically caps the charging speed at your vehicle's maximum rate. For example, if you use a 150kW charger but your car only accepts 50kW, the calculation will use 50kW as the effective charging rate.

For daily use, it's best to charge between 20-80% to maximize battery lifespan. Only charge to 100% when needed for longer trips. Most EVs have settings to limit charging to 80% automatically for regular use.
